Cough.

Oh, hi there.

I feel like rewriting my whole 30-day challenge now. I know I only stopped at day 4, but now I know so much more about them... and I know most of my answers will be different.

Ha.

I will... maybe. In due time.

Wookie's birthday! & Yeteuk

Tuesday 21 June 2011

Just a quick post to say...

Happy 25th birthday to our dear Kim Ryeowook!

I hope you have a great one, Wookie! We love you!

Look at that cute, little face. Who can guess he's already 25! ...well, 24 in Western countries, but yeah.

And in honour of Ryeowook, I've temporarily changed my Twitter icon to him!

At midnight last night, we ELFs managed to trend #eternalWOOKday worldwide on Twitter! I was so proud of my fellow ELFs. We showed them our power! I hope Ryeowook saw it! It's still trending now, in fact, in Indonesia and Singapore.

Yayyyy. Lots of Wookie love.

Also.
I'm a secret Yeteuk lover.

Yesung and Leeteuk aren't high up in my bias list, but I adore Yeteuk! The two of them just look so cute when they're together. And no, no Yeteuk slash please. They're friends... brothers, really.

Yay Yeteuk! I dare say I love them more than Kyumin. (Sorry, Minnie.)

The 30 Day Super Junior challenge will have to be on hold for now... I'm desperately trying to catch up on school. I'll continue it when I have the time! I just had to post this quick one to say happy birthday to Ryeowook and show my Yeteuk love.

30 Day Super Junior Challenge: Day 4

Tuesday 7 June 2011

I missed a day again! My apologies! I was studying the whole day yesterday... Here's day 4!

Day 4: Your favorite SJ Song

I thought long and hard about this one, and I'm still not too sure. To be honest, I haven't listened to many of their songs. I guess I'll just go with "Bonamana" for now. It's a catchy song with awesome dance moves to go with it.

I actually have a lot to say about this song and the performance, but I'll leave it for day 9 when I'll write about the live version of it. It's amazing.

For now, just watch the MV and enjoy the hotness of the boys.

Sungmin has solos in the song! Look out for him at 1:14. He's so cute even as an emo/serious boy. Gotta love him.

30 Day Super Junior Challenge: Day 3

Sunday 5 June 2011

Two posts in one day! Yay!

Day 3: Your favorite Sub-group

This is easy. Too easy, in fact. I absofreakinglutely adore Super Junior M.

First off, they sing Chinese, and I know Chinese. That's a big plus. Secondly, I absolutely love the two new members they added, Zhoumi and Henry.

I know there was a big controversy and disapproval among the fans and supporters at first when it was known that the management company was going to add two new members to the original thirteen, but the two of them are widely accepted (and loved!) now. I'm so glad they are.

This is gonna sound really superficial and stupid, but one of the reasons I freaking love Zhoumi is that he wears glasses all the time. Stupid, yes, but true. I don't know why; I love them! Also, for some reason, I love it when Zhoumi speaks Chinese. His accent is so cute! He has an amazing smile too. I can just die in that smile. ....okay, I'll shut up about Zhoumi now. You all can pretty much tell I absofreakinglutely love him already anyway.

Henry... well. I first thought him really, really ugly (sorry, Henry!). He started growing on me though, after I watched a few shows they were in. He's hilarious. I love his English too. It's so perfect. Also, he has wicked violin-playing skills.

I guess another thing I love about SJM is the closeness they share. Yes, Super Junior has a strong family relationship too, but SJM is different. They have to speak a lot of Chinese, which the Koreans are not used to; and it's just so very sweet to see Zhoumi and Henry helping and teaching them (sometimes, the Koreans even help each other which is really adorable!). I also especially appreciate that Zhoumi and Henry can speak Korean. I know it was probably one of the requirements when they joined, but I just feel that it's really special how Zhoumi and Henry, whose first language isn't Korean, speak to the other boys and communicate with them.

SJM also recently filmed a few Taiwan shows. They were hilarious. I laughed so hard watching them, and it really gave me a whole new love for SJM. They try so very hard at speaking Chinese... it's extremely cute to see.

Of course, having almost all of my top Super Junior guys in it is a big part of why I love SJM. There's cute, little Wookie; appealing-voiced Kyu; hilarious, sexy dancer Hyukkie; hot, charming Hae; handsome Won; and, most importantly, adorable Sungminnie.

There are many other ideas swimming in my head about SJM, but if I were to write it all down, you would probably just see a lot of the same words being repeated. Love, for example. Also hot, handsome, cute, adorable, etc.

So, there you have it! My favourite sub-group: Super Junior M love.

30 Day Super Junior Challenge: Day 2

Yeah, I know. I missed a day. I was out the whole day yesterday because we were celebrating Noah's birthday! So... yup. Happy 15th birthday, Noah! Have an amazing one.

Day 2: Your favorite OTP

This one's simpler than my ultimate bias. There are close runner-ups for this one, but I have to say, I'm a strong Eunhae friendshipper.

Their friendship is just love. I'm not one for slash so please don't come and recommend me Eunhae fics and whatnot. I just love their closeness and adoration for each other and what they do.

Donghae is a total cutie, and Eunhyuk never fails to make me laugh. The two of them are just....love.

Eunhyuk is Jil's bias, and Donghae is Starry's. Isn't that such a cute representation of Jil's and Starry's friendship too? I love it.

Kyumin comes in as a close second, only because they're two of my top guys. Their relationship, to me, doesn't seem as strong as Eunhae's, but the two of them are just too adorable.

Surprisingly, that's the best Kyumin picture I have... oh well.

I love Haemin too because they take crazy cute pictures together.

So, yes! These are my OTPs. Eunhae is definitely first in my heart though.

....even if I find Sungmin such an irresistible cutie.

30 Day Super Junior Challenge: Day 1

Friday 3 June 2011

Day 1: Your ultimate bias

This is hard. I mean, really hard.

I started out loving Siwon when I first saw him in the "No Other" MV. Even before I became a fan and an ELF, I loved Siwon. I didn't care about the others... only him.

Just look at that smile! How can anybody dislike that?

After I began searching up the other members' names and getting interested in them... well. I started getting attached to the evil maknae of the group, Kyuhyun, after I watched the "Sorry, Sorry" MV. His smile and voice are to die for! Not to mention he's hilarious.

Now, though, I'm swaying towards cute, adorable, baby-faced Sungmin.

The picture says it all. The pink + the pout are too hard for me to resist.

So who is my ultimate bias? ....I don't know. I really don't. There are three amazing, hot, talented, cute, adorable men up there. You pick one.

Sungmin's a good choice.

Smile! :)

Insomnia

Sunday 15 May 2011

And out there right now, you are in your big, rich home, sleeping in your comfortable bed, knocked out, oblivious to the world. You do not know that there is a girl who is thinking about you, crying over you... all because of a promise you made but did not keep.

Please. Come back?
...because I miss you too much for me to bear.

Sorbet...?

Saturday 7 May 2011

As I looked in the mirror yesterday and saw my usual anorexic self, I realised I seriously needed to gain some weight. I looked as though my parents don't feed me enough!

Two things immediately sprang to my mind: chocolate and ice cream.

I wasn't in the mood to eat chocolate (yes, you need a mood for that), but ice cream... well, that's different. I can eat ice cream ANY TIME, even in the thirty-below-zero weather in China.

I found my mother doing the laundry and told her, "I'm gonna eat ice cream!"

She replied, "Do we have ice cream?"

Throwing open the freezer doors and reaching out to grab the carton, I showed it to my mother with a triumphant smile.

"That's sorbet!" she retorted.

I shrugged and grabbed my I'm special mug and a spoon. "Same."

As I looked closely at the carton, I realised three important words.

"99% fat free."

Seriously?! What kind of ice cream is this? How is a girl supposed to gain weight eating this?

While I was eating my ice cream, I told this little incident to Starry. She scoffed and said in a "duh, every idiot knows that" voice, "Of course. It's sorbet."

...I guess there is a difference between ice cream and sorbet after all.

And on a totally random note, boo! Meow!

TCKs

Wednesday 4 May 2011

As much as I enjoyed living overseas for a big portion of my life, I don't think I would ever put my children through what I had to go through as a TCK.

Today, I stumbled upon a Picnik blog post about a Singaporean girl who is currently living in China (sounds familiar?). The article called her a TCK.

I admit, this is the first time I've heard this term, though, apparently, I am one.

According to Wikipedia, a TCK, or a third culture kid, is "someone who, as a child, has spent a significant period of time in one or more culture(s) other than his or her own, thus integrating elements of those cultures and their own birth culture, into a third culture."

....oh! And look. Wikipedia even has a little section dedicated to us MKs (missionary kids). It says, "Of all TCKs, MKs generally have the most interaction with the local populace and the least interaction with people from their passport country. They are also the most likely of the TCKs to integrate themselves into the local culture."

How true! Wikipedia has never really been seen as a very trustworthy source, but I can assure you that that is the exact truth.

Here's another statistic from Wikipedia: 90% feel "out of sync" with their peers.

I can't remember how many times I've felt that way. I can't remember how often I've felt that I don't belong anywhere. I certainly am not a local Chinese, but the Singaporean part of me was fading away too. I was two different cultures mixed into one person (three, if you count the American side of me), and it was... hard.

It was hard for me to communicate with people who didn't understand what I've been through, what I've seen at such a young age. It was hard for me to fit in, to find friends with the same interests, to... belong.

Living in China for six years was an adventure for me; but the homesickness, the awkwardness, and the ugly discrimination are things I would rather not experience if given the choice.

Many TCKs take years to readjust to their passport countries. They often suffer a reverse culture shock upon their return, and are often perpetually homesick for their adopted country.

Then, suddenly, almost without notice, I was thrown back into my home country and forced into the culture that I have long since forgotten. I was expected to act like the teenagers here, expected to know as much education-wise, and expected to think the same way.

Others can have difficulty relating to them. It is hard for TCKs to present themselves as a single cultured person, which makes it hard for others who have not had similar experiences to accept them for who they are.

...I'm different. I am a third culture kid. I have mixed the Singaporean culture with the Chinese one (and a little bit of American) to create a whole new third culture. I'm not the same.

I do not hate my parents for moving us to China, nor do I ever regret any moment of my life there. It was a great time of growing and of experiencing something most Singaporeans my age wouldn't have otherwise. I loved my past six years.

All I'm saying is... I would not put my children through what I went through, because I know that the pain and the tears come together as a package with the wonderful times; and it is not something any child should ever have to go through. Yes, it hurts that bad.

Although I would probably never find a place to fit in in this life, I rejoice in the fact that I find safety and a sense of belonging in the arms of my Saviour. I am thankful that in those years of hardships and grief in China, I had Someone Who was always looking out for me and Whom I could always go to; and when I feel that no one understands, I can have confidence knowing that He does.

"I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth." - Psalm 121:1-2

I quoted a lot from Wikipedia in this post. Here's the actual article.

First post, oh yeah.

Tuesday 3 May 2011

I've had a couple of blogs over the years, but none of them ever really worked out. They either got too personal for the public to read or died out from the lack of updates.

I love writing; but because of a busy schedule and lack of inspiration (lies), my awesome skills have greatly worn out.

That's partially why I started this blogto brush up on my writing skills but also to have a place to jot down my thoughts and the little moments of life I do not want to forget.

Most of the posts will be about me, the things that make me smile, the people who brighten my life, and the God Who is the only reason I'm here today.

So. Yay. Here's to the start of a brand new blog. Let's try to keep this one alive.
